Herring under a fur coat with apples is an original interpretation of the classic Russian salad loved by many generations. Originating in the early 20th century, the traditional version symbolized abundance and the coziness of home gatherings. This recipe omits potatoes but adds apple for freshness and a slight tartness. The tenderness of beetroot, sweetness of carrots, spiciness of onions, and salty taste of herring harmoniously blend with fruity notes of apple. Thanks to this detail, the salad becomes lighter without losing flavor richness. It suits both festive occasions and everyday menus, especially in cold weather when one craves warming yet light dishes. It is recommended to serve chilled to reveal the full palette of flavors.
