Squid stewed in a jar is an original dish of Russian cuisine that combines simplicity of preparation with an amazing depth of flavor. Historically, the method of stewing in a jar was used to preserve the softness and richness of the product's aromas. Tender strips of squid are slowly stewed in vegetable oil with onions and garlic, absorbing the warmth of spices—bay leaves and black pepper. The low-temperature stewing process allows the squid to retain juiciness and acquire a rich flavor without excessive toughness. The dish is served chilled, like an exquisite appetizer perfectly paired with rye bread and fresh vegetables. Its subtle sea aroma, slightly spicy taste, and delicate texture make squid stewed in a jar a magnificent choice for a festive table or a cozy family dinner.
