White bread is a symbol of home comfort and centuries-old traditions of Russian cuisine. Its history goes back centuries when bakers created fluffy, aromatic loaves that became the foundation of meals. This bread features a tender, airy texture with a golden crust exuding a subtle aroma of fresh baking. The taste is soft and slightly sweet, perfectly pairing with both honey and butter. White bread is versatile: it serves as a base for sandwiches, complements soups, and is an integral part of Russian culinary culture. Baked at home, it carries special warmth and coziness, evoking memories of family dinners and festive gatherings. Simple ingredients—flour, water, yeast, salt, and egg—transform into a work of art where each loaf is infused with care and love.

1
Add dry yeast to warm water (if using fresh, use 15 g), and sugar. Stir and let it sit for 5-10 minutes. The yeast should 'start working'.
- Dry yeast: 10 g
- Sugar: 1 tablespoon
- Water: 300 ml
2
Sift the flour into a bowl and add salt.
- Wheat flour: 500 g
- Sea salt: 2 teaspoons
3
Gradually add water with yeast and start kneading the dough. Knead the dough for 5 minutes until it becomes elastic and velvety. A mixer with a dough attachment can be used.
- Water: 300 ml

We take a clean deep bowl, grease it with olive oil using a brush, and transfer our prepared dough (I do this so the dough doesn't stick to the bowl and is easier to remove). We cover it with plastic wrap and leave it in a warm place until it doubles in size.
5
When the dough has doubled in size, punch it down and knead for 30 seconds. If you're making spiced bread, this is the stage to add any spices and ingredients. Take a bread pan; you can also bake without one, dust with flour and transfer the dough into it. Cover with a towel. Place in a warm spot until the bread rises again to double its size.
6
Preheat the oven to 200 degrees. Brush the bread with egg using a brush. Carefully place the bread. Bake for 35-45 minutes. If the top starts to burn and the bread needs another 15-20 minutes, reduce the temperature to 180 degrees. You can check readiness by tapping the bottom of the bread—if the sound is hollow, the bread is ready; if not, continue baking.
- Chicken egg: 1 piece

After the bread is baked, place it on a rack and let it cool for 30 minutes.
