American apple pie with nutmeg is a true classic, a symbol of comfort and home warmth. Its history dates back to colonial times when apples were one of the most accessible fruits. The flaky crust envelops a juicy filling infused with the aroma of cinnamon and nutmeg. The taste combines the sweetness of apples, a hint of lemon's tartness, and the richness of spices, creating a harmony familiar from childhood. This pie is perfect for family gatherings, served with vanilla ice cream or a cup of freshly brewed tea. A subtle hint of nutmeg adds special depth to its flavor, making it not just a dessert but a true gastronomic delight.

1
For the test, we cut the butter into cubes and send it to the freezer for 15 minutes.
- Butter: 200 g
2
Sift the flour with salt, add oil, and rub it in.
- Wheat flour: 300 g
- Salt: pinch
- Butter: 200 g
3
Mix cold water with two teaspoons of lemon juice and gradually pour it into the flour. You may need less water for the dough than in the recipe, so add it in small portions.
- Water: 0.3 glass
- Lemon juice: 7 teaspoons
4
We mix the dough, roll it into a ball, wrap it in film, and put it in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
- Wheat flour: 300 g
5
For the filling, we peel the apples, remove the core, and cut them into small slices. We drizzle with lemon juice, add sugar with starch and spices.
- Apple: 10 pieces
- Lemon juice: 7 teaspoons
- Sugar: 1.5 glass
- Starch: 1 tablespoon
- Ground cinnamon: 0.5 teaspoon
- Ground nutmeg: pinch
6
Divide the dough into two unequal parts, rolling out the larger one to fit the shape. Grease the form with oil, place the dough and filling inside. Cover with the second half of the dough — if the pie lid is solid, don't forget to make a hole for steam to escape.
- Butter: 200 g
7
Bake the pie in the oven at 175 degrees for 40–60 minutes.
8
Before serving, let it cool a bit so the filling thickens.
