Chicken in sour cream-mustard sauce baked in the oven is a classic dish of Russian cuisine that combines the tenderness of chicken meat, the creamy softness of sour cream, and the spicy sharpness of mustard. Its origins trace back to traditional Russian recipes for roasted poultry, where natural flavors harmoniously complement each other. Baked with tomatoes, the chicken acquires a slight tanginess, while grated cheese gives the dish an appetizing golden crust. This dish is perfect for both family dinners and festive tables, easily pairing with various side dishes—from mashed potatoes to fresh vegetables. Its pleasant texture and rich flavor make it a favorite among fans of Russian cuisine, and its simplicity allows even novice cooks to enjoy culinary creativity.

1
Pound and lay the chicken fillet on a baking tray. If the pieces are thick, it's better to cut them into thin slices, season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Chicken breast: 1000 g
- Tomatoes: 3 pieces
2
Slice the tomatoes thinly and place them on top of the chicken.
- Tomatoes: 3 pieces
3
Mix sour cream (I use 10% fat sour cream) and mustard to taste, and pour the resulting sauce over chicken with tomatoes.
- Sour cream: 100 g
- Mustard: 50 g
4
Grate the cheese and sprinkle on top.
- Cheese: 300 g

Preheat the oven to 200 degrees and place the tray with chicken for about 15 minutes, then reduce the temperature to 120 degrees and bake for another 25–35 minutes. But this is always individual, depending on the oven and cooking experience.

You can serve anything as a side dish; last time I served it with fried zucchini, it turned out very light and not heavy.
