Onion pie with sour cream filling is a comforting dish of Russian cuisine, simple and incredibly aromatic. Its roots trace back to traditional village recipes where onion was an accessible and nutritious ingredient. The tender dough with a light crispy crust pairs excellently with the sweet caramel flavor of the onions, which become soft and pleasant after cooking. The sour cream filling makes the filling tender and juicy, giving the pie a creamy texture. This pie is perfect for a cozy home dinner or festive table, enjoyed warm or chilled. It is good on its own or accompanied by fresh greens and a light salad. Due to its simplicity in preparation, this pie has long been a beloved recipe passed down through generations.
