Speculoos cookies are a traditional Dutch treat that originated in medieval Europe. Their rich aroma of spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, and ginger immerses you in the cozy atmosphere of winter evenings. These thin, crispy cookies are traditionally associated with St. Nicholas Day and are given to children in the lead-up to Christmas. Cane sugar adds caramel notes while vanilla sugar provides a delicate aftertaste. Speculoos pairs perfectly with a cup of coffee or tea and serves as a wonderful complement to desserts like ice cream or mousses. They can be stored for long periods and remain fragrant and crispy. It's more than just a cookie—it's an immersion into the warm traditions and culinary heritage of the Netherlands.
