Lentil soup with green peas is a cozy and nutritious dish of Ukrainian cuisine that warms on cold days. Lentils, known for their richness in protein and fiber, give the soup depth, while potatoes and carrots add softness and tenderness to the flavor. Green peas add a light sweetness and freshness, harmoniously completing the composition. The taste of the soup is mild yet expressive, with pleasant hints of vegetables and butter. Historically, such soups were popular in rural Ukraine where simplicity and accessibility of ingredients were valued. This dish is perfect for a hearty lunch or a light dinner. It is served hot, sometimes with a piece of rye bread that enhances its traditional character.
