A French sandwich with ham and cheese is a refined dish embodying the elegance of French cuisine. Its history begins in cozy Parisian cafes, where the combination of simplicity and flavor harmony is valued. Crispy white bread, grilled to perfection, conceals a delicate filling of aromatic Gruyère cheese and thinly sliced Parma ham, seasoned with butter. Parmesan adds a sophisticated zest, while salt and pepper enhance the richness of flavor. This sandwich is perfect for a morning breakfast or light lunch, especially paired with a glass of French wine or a cup of freshly brewed coffee. Its simplicity in preparation makes it accessible for any gourmet, while its rich and balanced taste turns every meal into a small gastronomic delight.

1
Preheat the grill in the oven well. Butter the slices of bread, sprinkle with half of the Gruyère, and place slices of ham - so that all ingredients fit on the bread and do not overflow the edges.
- Butter: 20 g
- Gruyere cheese: 50 g
- Parma ham: 3 pieces
- White bread for toast: 2 pieces
2
Sprinkle the remaining Gruyère on top, season with salt and pepper. Cover one slice of bread with another so that the filling is all inside. Press firmly. At this stage, you can cut off the crusts of the bread, but they make the sandwich crunchier.
- Gruyere cheese: 50 g
- Salt: to taste
- Ground black pepper: to taste
3
Spread half of the softened butter on top of the sandwich and sprinkle with half of the Parmesan, pressing down well. Place the sandwich under the grill for 2 minutes until golden brown. Then flip it over, spread with the remaining butter and sprinkle with Parmesan.
- Butter: 20 g
- Grated Parmesan cheese: 2 teaspoons

Return to the grill for a couple of minutes. Place on a plate and cut into 4 pieces. Serve immediately.
- Grated Parmesan cheese: 2 teaspoons
