Hot canapés with cheese and mayonnaise are a refined yet simple European snack delicacy. Their history begins with the tradition of canapés that originated in France as an elegant accompaniment to aperitifs. Crispy white bread, lightly toasted to a golden hue, serves as the perfect base for the delicate tandem of mayonnaise and grated cheese that melts during baking, creating an appetizing crust. Thin rings of onion add zest and a hint of freshness, balancing the rich flavor. These canapés are ideal for warm family evenings or festive gatherings, complementing a glass of wine or fragrant tea.

1
Preheat the oven to 180 degrees. Cut each slice of bread into pieces about 4x4 cm and dry them on a baking sheet.
