Croque Monsieur Italian Style

Italian croque-monsieur is a refined take on the classic French sandwich, enriched with the flavors of sunny Italy. Instead of traditional white bread, fragrant focaccia soaked in olive oil and spices is used. The filling features delicate mozzarella that melts when cooked and thin slices of prosciutto that add a sophisticated salty note. Oregano adds fresh Mediterranean accents. Toasted to a golden crust, this sandwich surprises with the contrast of crispy bread and melted cheese. Perfect for breakfast, a snack, or a light lunch, especially paired with a glass of white wine or a fresh salad.

1
Place 25 g of mozzarella on a slice of focaccia, cover it with a layer of prosciutto (also 25 g), add another layer of mozzarella, sprinkle with a quarter of oregano, and cover with a second slice of focaccia. Make 3 more sandwiches like this.
- Mozzarella cheese: 225 g
- Focaccia: 8 pieces
- Prosciutto: 115 g
- Oregano: 5 g
2
Heat the pan, pour in oil (enough to cover the bottom), after a minute place the sandwiches in the pan and press down with a lid. Fry them on both sides until golden brown. When the cheese starts to melt, remove from heat, cut into pieces (e.g., triangles) and serve.
- Olive oil: to taste
