First, cook the pasta in a pot according to the package instructions; drain the water. While the pasta is cooking, dice the tomatoes and chop the onion. Combine the tomatoes (with juice), onion, basil, garlic, oil, salt, and pepper in a large bowl.

- Basil leaves: 12 pieces

When the pasta reaches al dente, remove from heat, drain through a colander, and place the hot noodles in a bowl on top of the other ingredients. Mix the contents of the bowl thoroughly, then generously sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese.
