Jansson's Temptation

There is a version that this simple casserole is named after Pelle Jansson, a Swedish opera singer and great gourmet who lived in the second half of the nineteenth century. On the other hand, few people heard of this recipe before the 1940s, when it was published. So there is another version: it is connected with the 1928 film of the same name, which a wealthy Stockholm resident liked so much that she named her dish for a 1929 New Year's party after it. Since that party , the casserole recipe has spread among Swedish housewives and quickly took pride of place on the Swedish holiday (especially Christmas) table.
