Vancouver Lettuce Hamburger

Vancouver-style hamburger in lettuce leaves is an original take on the classic American dish inspired by the healthy eating trend. Vancouver, known for its eco-friendliness and balance of taste and health benefits, is the perfect place for such a culinary experiment. Juicy ground beef infused with cilantro, garlic, and cumin is grilled to perfection. Instead of a traditional bun, it’s wrapped in fresh crispy lettuce leaves and complemented with juicy tomatoes, pickles, and tangy pickled onions. The finishing touch is a homemade mayonnaise sauce that can be made with avocado for creaminess. Lightness, rich flavor, and health benefits make this hamburger a unique choice for those seeking gastronomic discoveries without compromising health.

1
Mix the minced meat well with tomato paste, onion, garlic, herbs, cumin, salt, pepper, and a handful of ice cubes. Beat it against the table.
- Tomato concentrated paste: 100 g
- Onion: 2 heads
- Garlic: 1 head
- Fresh cilantro (coriander): 1 bunch
- Ground cumin (zira): to taste
- Salt: to taste
- Ground black pepper: to taste
2
Preheat the home/street grill well (I cooked on a gas grill plate, but you can also use a grill pan). Shape the burgers and place them on the hot grill, pressing slightly with a spatula. 'Seal' the meat on one side, then the other (for a few seconds), then cook for 2-3 minutes on each side.
- Ground beef: 1 kg
3
Prepare the vegetables: slice tomatoes, pickles, and onion rings, drizzle with the juice of half a lemon or lime, and prepare fresh, crispy lettuce leaves.
- Tomatoes: 4 pieces
- Pickles: 200 g
4
Mayonnaise can be bought ready-made, but I made it myself: today it was mayonnaise with a little ketchup and lemon juice. You can mix mayonnaise with avocado puree.
- Mayonnaise: 200 g
5
Place tomatoes (can be salted and peppered) on a lettuce leaf, then add pickles, a hamburger, marinated onions, mayonnaise sauce, cover (or wrap) with another lettuce leaf and serve.
- Tomatoes: 4 pieces
- Pickles: 200 g
- Onion: 2 heads
- Mayonnaise: 200 g
