Potato casserole is one of the favorite dishes of Russian cuisine, filled with simple yet harmonious flavors. Its roots are believed to trace back to homey peasant recipes where housewives used available ingredients to prepare hearty meals. Tender potatoes soaked in milk and butter create an airy base, while golden fried onions add a rich aroma and a hint of sweetness. The casserole is topped with sour cream, giving it a rosy crust. It is served with sauces—milk-based, sour cream or mushroom—to enhance the flavor. This versatile dish is perfect for both cozy family dinners and festive tables, reminding us of home traditions.
