In a saucepan, mix currants, sugar, and 2 tablespoons of water. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, and cook for about 15 minutes until the currants are soft, stirring.

Strain through a sieve, squeezing out all the juice. Chill.

For one serving of the cocktail, place 2 tablespoons of red currant puree in a champagne glass and pour in the champagne. Serve immediately.
