Simple pickled red onion is a traditional element of Russian cuisine that adds a tangy and slightly sweet note to dishes. Historically, pickling was used as a method of preserving food, and this recipe remains relevant due to its simplicity. The onion takes on a bright raspberry hue with a rich flavor that has mild acidity and subtle sweetness, perfectly complementing meat dishes, fish, and salads. It can be used as an independent snack or added to sandwiches for enhanced flavor. It is quick to prepare: the hot marinade of wine vinegar and sugar instantly infuses the onion, and after resting in the fridge, it becomes even more tender. This pickled onion is an elegant table decoration and an essential ingredient for lovers of rich flavor combinations.
