Crispy Onions for Hot Dogs
2 servings
10 minutes
Crispy onions for hot dogs are an essential element of classic American street food, adding perfect texture and a sweet-salty flavor. The tradition of fried crispy onions arose as a way to add depth to dishes. Slices of onion fried to a golden-brown with sugar and breadcrumbs acquire a rich caramel aroma and appetizing crunch. This onion not only perfectly complements hot dogs but can also be used in burgers, sandwiches, or as a standalone garnish for meat dishes. The light sweetness contrasting with the savory meat ingredients makes it a special decoration for any dish.

1
Peel the onion and slice it thinly into half-rings. Place in a bowl, cover with a lid, and shake gently to separate the slices.
- Onion: 2 heads
2
Heat oil in a pan and add onion. Stir constantly and fry until slightly golden, then add sugar and mix well. Next, add breadcrumbs and continue stirring until a bright golden-brown color is achieved (onion petals should mix well with the breadcrumbs and become dense).
- Vegetable oil: 1 tablespoon
- Onion: 2 heads
- Sugar: 2 teaspoons
- Breadcrumbs: 1 tablespoon
3
Transfer the cooked onion to a plate covered with a paper towel and let excess oil drain.
