A snack made from canned fish and eggs is a simple yet elegant recipe from Dutch cuisine. This combination of tender canned salmon, eggs, and aromatic onions creates a harmonious blend of flavors. The light spiciness of mayonnaise highlights the richness of the fish, while the eggs add softness to the texture. Historically, such snacks were popular among fishermen and residents of the coastal regions of the Netherlands, where fresh and canned fish are an important part of the diet. It can be served as a standalone dish or as a spread on crispy bread, perfectly paired with herbs and fresh vegetables. This snack is ideal for quick bites and festive buffets, offering a rich yet balanced taste.
