Viennese strudel with apples and cinnamon

100 minutes
Viennese apple strudel is a true hallmark of Austrian cuisine, dating back to the era of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The thin, crispy dough encases a juicy filling of apples, raisins, and cinnamon, creating a harmony of flavors – the sweetness of the fruits, the spice of cinnamon, and the tenderness of butter. It is often served warm, dusted with powdered sugar and sometimes accompanied by a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream sauce. This dessert combines tradition and sophistication, making it perfect for a cozy tea time or festive dinner. Preparation requires patience and skill, but its taste and aroma transport you to the heart of Vienna, to old coffee houses where this strudel is paired with strong aromatic coffee and leisurely conversations.
