Homemade Spiced Oatmeal Cookies

Homemade spiced oatmeal cookies are a cozy treat infused with the warmth of home cooking. Their roots trace back to European baking traditions where oats are used to create a crunchy and nutritious structure. Toasted oats give the cookies a light nutty aroma, while cinnamon and nutmeg create a rich spicy palette that offers a warming flavor. The buttery dough with brown sugar makes the cookies tender, and raisins add sweet fruity notes. Baking them slightly less achieves a soft, chewy texture, while longer baking turns them into a crispy delight. They pair perfectly with a cup of hot tea or coffee, creating an atmosphere of comfort and enjoyment. A wonderful choice for family gatherings or quiet moments with a favorite book.

1
Preheat the oven to 180 degrees. Line the baking tray with parchment paper or grease it with butter.
- Butter: 225 g
2
Lightly toast the oats in a dry pan over low heat, stirring frequently. Once a pleasant, slightly nutty aroma fills the kitchen, you can remove the pan from the heat.
- Oat flakes: 300 g
3
In a bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, salt, ground cinnamon, nutmeg, and toasted flakes with a fork.
- Wheat flour: 245 g
- Baking powder: 0.5 teaspoon
- Salt: 0.5 teaspoon
- Cinnamon: 0.5 teaspoon
- Nutmeg: 0.5 teaspoon
4
Beat the butter and sugar with a mixer on medium speed, adding one egg at a time until a smooth creamy mixture is obtained.
- Butter: 225 g
- Cane sugar: 270 g
- Chicken egg: 2 pieces
5
Add the mixture of flour and flakes to the butter, mix thoroughly, and add raisins.
- Wheat flour: 245 g
- Oat flakes: 300 g
- Raisin: 95 g
6
Place the dough on a baking sheet in small mounds with a tablespoon, 4-5 cm apart — the cookies will spread slightly while baking.
7
Bake each batch of cookies for 6-9 minutes until they are slightly golden and almost firm in the middle. This will make the cookies soft and slightly sticky. If you leave them in the oven for another 3-4 minutes, the cookies will be crispy.
8
Remove the baking sheet from the oven and let the cookies sit on it for 2-3 minutes to firm up. Transfer the cookies to a rack to cool completely.
