Orange Pie

Orange pie is a refined dessert of Greek cuisine that combines a bright citrus aroma, a delicate phyllo pastry texture, and the richness of sweet syrup. The roots of this pie trace back to Mediterranean baking traditions, where the freshness of fruits and simplicity of preparation are highly valued. The sweetness of oranges in this dish is well balanced with a light acidity, while cinnamon adds warm Eastern notes. The pie is soaked in aromatic syrup, making it juicy and incredibly tasty. It is perfect for finishing a Greek-style lunch and also serves as an excellent treat for tea or coffee.

1
Prepare all the ingredients. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees.

2
Cut three round slices of orange about 3-5 mm thick and lay them in a single layer at the bottom of a small baking dish.
- Oranges: 1 piece

3
Pour 250 ml of orange juice (preferably fresh, but packaged is fine as long as it's not too sweet) and bake for 40-45 minutes, then remove from the oven.
- Orange juice: 330 ml

4
Meanwhile, mix 120 grams of sugar, a cinnamon stick, and water. Boil down by a third, pour it into a mold with oranges, and let it cool completely.
- Sugar: 300 g
- Cinnamon sticks: 1 piece

5
Grease a 20×30 cm pan with butter and dust with flour.
- Extra virgin olive oil: 280 ml

6
In a bowl, beat the remaining sugar and eggs until pale, add the remaining orange juice, oil, yogurt, zest, and vanilla.
- Sugar: 300 g
- Chicken egg: 4 pieces
- Orange juice: 330 ml
- Extra virgin olive oil: 280 ml
- Greek yogurt: 190 g
- Orange zest: 40 g
- Vanilla extract: 0.5 teaspoon

7
In a separate bowl, mix semolina and baking powder, then gradually incorporate into the egg mixture.
- Semolina: 50 g
- Baking powder: 1.5 teaspoon

8
Cut the phyllo dough into strips 1.5 cm wide and gently mix into the mixture.
- Filo dough: 340 g

9
Pour into the mold and bake for 35-40 minutes.

10
Take the baked pie out of the oven and pour the syrup infused with oranges over it. For convenience, you can transfer the syrup to a container with a spout. Let the pie cool.

11
Carefully cut the pie into twelve square pieces, and each orange slice into four parts.

12
Serve the pie decorated with orange slices.
- Oranges: 1 piece
