American Apple Pie with Nut Topping

6 servings

90 minutes

American apple pie with nut topping is a true embodiment of coziness and home warmth. Its roots go deep into American culinary tradition, where apple pies became a symbol of hospitality. The golden crumbly crust and tender apple filling with hints of cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves create a perfect harmony of flavors. The nut topping adds a crunchy texture and a light caramel sweetness to the pie, turning it into a true delight. It is especially delicious warm when the juicy apples still retain their tenderness and the topping pleasantly crunches. Serving it with ice cream creates an exquisite dessert that combines warm and cold, soft and crunchy. This pie is a classic of American cuisine, perfect for cozy family evenings or festive gatherings.

When the filling is ready, take the dough out of the fridge, roll it out on a floured surface to form a circle. Transfer it to a pre-greased deep dish (to make transferring easier, roll it between 2 sheets of baking paper). Press the dough with your fingers on the bottom and sides, and if it overhangs the edges, trim the excess. Place it in the fridge to cool.

  • 3

Preheat the oven to 200 degrees.

  • 4

Peel the apples (choose sweet varieties), cut them, and remove the seeds. Cut the apples into pieces. In a large bowl, mix the apples with lemon juice to prevent browning.

  • 5

In a small bowl, mix sugar (half a cup), cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, salt, and flour (3 tablespoons). Combine the apples and the flour mixture and stir.

    3. Ground cloves1 teaspoon
    4. Nutmeg0.5 teaspoon
    5. Salt pinch

  • 6

Pour the apple filling into the mold. Place it in the oven. Put foil under the mold in the oven in case of spillage. Bake for 25 minutes.

  • 7

Using your fingers, rub the butter (80 g) and flour (1 cup heaped) together. The butter should remain in lumps. Add brown sugar and chopped pecans (you can substitute with walnuts or 2/3 cup of oats). Chill in the refrigerator.

    1. Butter200 g
    2. Wheat flour500 g
    3. Brown soft sugar0.7 glass
    4. Chopped toasted pecans0.5 glass

Take the pie out of the oven. Increase the temperature to 210 degrees. Cover the pie with topping, hiding the apples, the filling should be slightly mounded in the center, press down. Place the pie in the oven for 25-30 minutes (until golden brown).

  • 9

Cool the pie to room temperature. Serve warm with ice cream (the recipe specifies the weight of ice cream per serving).
