Makroud is a traditional Tunisian sweet that combines the tenderness of semolina dough with the rich flavor of dates. The history of this treat dates back to ancient Maghreb traditions, where sweet rolls filled with dried fruits symbolized abundance and hospitality. In this recipe, semolina dough soaked in warm olive oil envelops a fragrant filling of dates, cinnamon, and orange zest. After frying, makroud acquires an appetizing crispy crust while retaining its softness and rich flavor inside. Perfect with a cup of aromatic tea or coffee, this dessert offers moments of true enjoyment, revealing the richness of Eastern cuisine.
