Winter figured cookies

Winter shaped cookies are a delicate and crispy treat with a light citrus aroma from Russian cuisine. They remind of frosty patterns on windows and Christmas wonders. The dough is based on butter, wheat flour, starch, and powdered sugar enriched with fresh orange zest. Thanks to short baking in the microwave, the cookies acquire an airy texture. Their shape is particularly interesting: you can make 'moons', stars or any other winter motifs. A sprinkle of powdered sugar with citric acid adds a light tanginess that balances the sweetness of the dough. These cookies pair wonderfully with hot tea or cocoa, creating cozy evenings with family. They are not only tasty but also atmospheric as their preparation turns into true festive creativity.

The preparation starts with mixing butter, flour, powdered sugar, starch, and zest. The resulting dough is rolled out to about one centimeter thick between two layers of plastic wrap. Next, we form the blanks for the 'moons.' Cookies can also be made in the shape of stars or other figures. We place the blanks on a microwave-safe plate. It is recommended to place the 'moons' only around the edges of the plate. Usually, 10 cookies fit on one plate.
