Banana House

8 servings

30 minutes

Banana house is a simple yet incredibly delicious dessert that is easy to make without baking. Its roots trace back to Russian cuisine, where cottage cheese sweets are popular. The base of this treat consists of layers of cookies soaked in a creamy cottage cheese filling with a banana accent. The main decoration is a whole banana inside, which gives the dessert an interesting shape and soft texture. After cooling, the house gains density, and grated dark chocolate adds sophistication. Light and airy with a pleasant balance of sweetness and tartness, it is perfect for tea time or a cozy family evening. Easy to prepare yet surprising in taste — Banana house always delights both children and adults.

Cooking steps
  • 1

First, we prepare the cream: mix cottage cheese, sour cream, and sugar well to avoid lumps. Mash two bananas with a fork and incorporate them into the mixture. The cream can be whipped with a blender, mixer, or fork; the main thing is that the mass should be homogeneous and somewhat liquid. Adjust the amount of sour cream depending on the dryness of the cottage cheese.

    Required ingredients:
    1. Cottage cheese400 g
    2. Sour cream5 tablespoon
    3. Sugar2 tablespoons
    4. Bananas3 pieces
  • 2

We take regular square sugar cookies (or rectangular ones, like jubilee). Take a board, place food wrap (or better a cut plastic bag) on top, and arrange the cookies in a rectangle of 3x4.

  • 3

Pour half of the cottage cheese mixture over the cookies, place the remaining cookies on top, and pour the mixture again.

    Required ingredients:
    1. Cottage cheese400 g
    2. Sour cream5 tablespoon
    3. Sugar2 tablespoons
    4. Cookie24 pieces
  • 4

Place the banana on the central row (if it is very curved, cut it so it lies relatively flat)

    Required ingredients:
    1. Bananas3 pieces

Now, using the film, carefully assemble the 'house' by connecting the outer rows (the 'roof' may not align, that's okay). If there's still mixture left, pour the leftovers on top of the house and secure it with the film. It may shift a bit.

  • 6

We send it to the refrigerator for 6-8 hours

  • 7

Once the cake sets, we remove the film and sprinkle with grated chocolate (you can make icing and sprinkle with crushed cookies)

    Enjoy your meal!
