Fortune cookies

Fortune cookies are a traditional New Year's treat invented in the USA. Making these cookies requires skill and patience, since you can only give the cookies the desired shape in the first few minutes after baking, while the dough is still hot. It is best to write wishes on the pieces of paper by hand with a felt-tip pen or print them on a laser printer. The size of the pieces of paper should not be larger than 1.5 by 7 cm.

1
Sift flour and starch into a large bowl. In a separate dish, beat the egg whites until frothy. While continuing to beat, add powdered sugar and vanilla sugar to the egg whites.
- Wheat flour: 1 glass
- Cornstarch: 2 tablespoons
- Egg white: 3 pieces
- Powdered sugar: 0.5 glass
- Vanilla sugar: 1 tablespoon
- Salt: pinch
2
Add butter and 3 tablespoons of cold water to the flour with starch. Add the egg whites and knead the dough. It should not be too thick. Let the dough rest for 15-20 minutes.
- Vegetable oil: 4 tablespoons
- Egg white: 3 pieces
3
Place a sheet of parchment with drawn circles of 8 cm diameter, 2 cm apart, on the baking tray. Grease the parchment with oil and use a teaspoon to place dough on each circle, spreading it evenly across the entire area.
- Vegetable oil: 4 tablespoons
4
Bake in a well-heated oven at 180 degrees for no more than 8 minutes.
5
Remove the baking tray, quickly take the baked dough circles off the parchment onto the work surface. Place a wish paper in the center of the circle, fold the circle in half. Then fold it in half again, without sticking the ends. Let it cool.
