Poppy seed roll is a classic Hungarian dessert with a rich and intense flavor. Its history is rooted in Eastern European culinary traditions where poppy pastries have always held a special place. The delicate yeast dough made with milk, eggs, and butter makes it airy and soft. The aromatic poppy filling mixed with honey and sugar adds sweetness and a rich nutty-spicy taste. This roll is perfect as festive baking or a cozy treat for tea. Its unique texture and balance of sweetness make it an essential addition to family gatherings. When served, it is sliced into neat pieces and dusted with powdered sugar for an elegant touch. Popular in Hungary and beyond, it remains a favorite among traditional pastry lovers.

Dissolve yeast in warm milk, add half of the flour, and set the dough to rise. When it doubles in volume, add salt and egg yolks mixed with sugar, stir, add the remaining flour, and knead the dough. Then add melted butter or margarine, knead until it pulls away from the sides of the bowl. After that, let the dough rise, lightly sprinkle with flour, cover, and place in a warm place; when it doubles in size, transfer it to a board.
