Seaweed Soup (Miekguk)

Miyeokguk is a traditional Korean soup with deep historical roots. It has been prepared since ancient times and is especially popular on birthdays as it is believed to bring good luck and strengthen health. The main ingredient is seaweed, rich in minerals and nutrients, while the addition of beef enhances the flavor. Miyeokguk has a mild, slightly salty taste with a pleasant aroma of sesame oil. It can be eaten as a standalone dish or with rice, warming and nourishing the body. This soup symbolizes care and traditions passed down through generations.

Soak the seaweed in cold water for 5 minutes until it becomes soft. Rinse it and cut into pieces of 2-4 cm.
- Dried seaweed sheets: 1 piece

Cut the beef like for beef stroganoff.
- Beef: 100 g

In a pot, over medium heat, sauté the beef with garlic, add soy sauce, and cook for about 2 minutes, stirring constantly.
- Beef: 100 g
- Garlic: 2 cloves
- Soy sauce: 1 tablespoon

Add the chopped seaweed and cook for another 3 minutes while stirring.
- Dried seaweed sheets: 1 piece

Pour in water, close the pot, and bring to a boil.

Reduce the heat and simmer for 20 minutes. Season with ground black pepper and salt to taste.
