Cold soup made from sour milk is a traditional Russian summer dish that is refreshing and nutritious. In ancient times, it was prepared in villages using available ingredients: sour milk, herbs, and vegetables. This soup has a delicate sourness complemented by the freshness of cucumbers and the spiciness of black pepper. Adding ham and boiled meat makes it more filling, while eggs add softness to the taste. It is served chilled with hot boiled potatoes – the temperature contrast enhances gastronomic pleasure. Ideal for hot days when you want something light yet rich. This soup can be eaten as a standalone dish or paired with rye bread for a fuller flavor.
