Put the meat broth to boil. After 1 1/2 - 2 hours of boiling, remove the meat and strain the broth into a soup pot, adding pre-fried roots and onion; then add the meat, chopped cabbage, and boil for 30-40 minutes. 5-10 minutes before finishing, add pepper, bay leaf, and salt to the soup.

Shchi can be cooked with the addition of potatoes and fresh tomatoes. In this case, the peeled and chopped potatoes should be added to the pot 10-15 minutes after the cabbage, and the sliced tomatoes should be added at the end of cooking along with the spices. Shchi without potatoes can be seasoned with fried flour.
