Season the shrimp with salt and pepper. In a large skillet, heat 4 teaspoons of olive oil over high heat and sauté the shrimp until cooked for 3 minutes. Transfer to a bowl.

For the sauce, heat the remaining oil in the same pan and sauté the minced garlic for 30 seconds, then add the canned tomatoes and 2 cups of water. Bring to a boil, reduce the heat, and cook, stirring, until soft for about 15 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in the halved cherry tomatoes.
