Heat butter and vegetable oil in a large heavy-bottomed skillet.
- Butter: 30 g
- Vegetable oil: 1 tablespoon

Remove the pan from the heat and layer potatoes, onions, and cheese; repeat until all ingredients are used up. The last layer should be cheese.
- Potato: 500 g
- Onion: 2 pieces
- Cheddar cheese: 125 g

Cover with a lid and cook on low heat for about half an hour - the vegetables should be almost ready. Make sure the potatoes don't turn into mash.
