Potato casserole with meat and sweet onion is a cozy dish of Russian cuisine that combines simplicity and rich flavor. Its roots go back to family dinner traditions where accessible ingredients turn into culinary delight. The casserole blends the softness of baked potatoes, the juiciness of minced meat, and the sweet notes of red onion, creating a harmony of flavors. A thin layer of mayonnaise adds a creamy texture while a generous amount of cheese forms an appetizing golden crust. This dish is perfect for home gatherings; it's convenient to prepare in large portions and the flavor nuances deepen after baking. It pairs ideally with sour cream sauce or fresh vegetables, making it a versatile treat for both everyday meals and cozy evenings with loved ones.

1
Clean the potatoes and onions. Cut the potatoes into 5 mm thick slices. Finely chop the white onion and slice the red onion into thin half-rings.
- Potato: 4 pieces
- Onion: 1 head
- Sweet red onion: 1 g
2
Prepare the minced meat. Mix finely chopped onion, minced meat, spices, and 200 grams of mayonnaise.
- Onion: 1 head
- Minced meat: 700 g
- Mayonnaise: 0.5 jar
- Spices for meat: to taste

Next, take a baking dish, grease it with a thin layer of oil, and layer: potatoes, minced meat, onions, potatoes, etc. The number of layers can be any, I usually have 2 layers of minced meat. Optionally, each layer or some can be sprinkled with a tasty seasoning. The last layer should be potato. You can optionally spread a thin layer of mayonnaise on it and definitely sprinkle with grated cheese (in this case, it's hard to spoil cheese, so for me - the more, the better).
- Potato: 4 pieces
- Minced meat: 700 g
- Onion: 1 head
- Mayonnaise: 0.5 jar
- Cheese: 300 g
- Spices for meat: to taste
- Salt: to taste
- Ground black pepper: to taste
