Potato balls with meat are a cozy dish of Belarusian cuisine, combining tender potato dough and aromatic meat filling. They resemble traditional draniki but have a unique shape that makes them especially appetizing. The potato shell absorbs the flavor of the beef filling, while the tomato-sour cream sauce adds tenderness and a slight tanginess. Baking in the oven gives the balls a golden crust and rich flavor. This dish is perfect for family dinners or festive gatherings, delighting with its simplicity and richness. It can be served with greens and fresh vegetables, as well as complemented with sour cream or spicy sauces to create new flavor nuances.

1
Peel the potatoes, place them in boiling salted water, and boil until cooked.
- Potato: 500 g
- Salt: to taste
2
When the potatoes are cooked, drain the water they were boiled in and mash them. Add an egg, salt, and flour to the mashed potatoes, mix everything, and knead the dough.
- Chicken egg: 1 piece
- Salt: to taste
- Wheat flour: 80 g
3
In another bowl, grate the onion into the prepared ground beef using a fine grater. You can add half an egg to the mixture, which will make the filling denser, as the egg binds the meat, but it's also fine to omit the egg. Add salt.
- Ground beef: 350 g
- Onion: 90 g
- Chicken egg: 1 piece
- Salt: to taste
4
Take pieces of 75 g from the potato mass, add a little flour, and flatten them by hand into a cake about 4 mm thick.
- Wheat flour: 80 g
5
Place about 35 grams of filling in the center of the potato flatbread.
- Ground beef: 350 g
6
Shape the pastry and roll it in your palms to give it a round shape.
7
Pour 5 grams of vegetable oil into the pan and spread it to prevent the potato balls from sticking to the bottom. Place all the potato balls close together in the pan.
- Vegetable oil: 5 ml
8
Mix the prepared tomato juice and sour cream in a separate bowl, add 1/4 teaspoon of salt. Pour this mixture over the prepared potato balls.
- Tomato juice: 1 glass
- Sour cream: 1 jar
- Salt: to taste
9
Put on the fire, bring to a boil, and simmer for about 5 minutes with the lid closed. Then open the lid, pour melted butter on top, and place in the oven on medium heat.
- Butter: 50 g
10
Keep in the oven for about 20 minutes, so that not all the sauce evaporates, then you can pour this sauce over the potato balls when serving.
