Hake steaks with onions, tomatoes, and grated cheese are a refined dish of Russian cuisine that combines simplicity of preparation with rich flavor. Hake, known for its tender texture and light sea aroma, becomes especially juicy after baking in the oven. Slices of onion add a slight sweetness and spiciness, while ripe tomatoes bring freshness and a hint of acidity. The composition is completed by Gruyère cheese, which melts to form an appetizing golden crust. This dish is perfect for a cozy family dinner or a light festive table.

1
Preheat the oven to 160 degrees.
2
Pour olive oil into the baking dish and lay the hake fillet, cut into 6 steaks, in a single layer. Lightly season with salt and drizzle half a teaspoon of oil on each piece.
- Olive oil: 5 tablespoon
- Hake: 1.2 kg
- Salt: to taste
- Olive oil: 5 tablespoon
3
Slice the onion into 6 thin rings, avoiding the edge parts (so all slices are the same size), and place one on each steak. Top with halved tomatoes, peeled and seeded, and sprinkle with cheese.
- Onion: 1 head
- Tomatoes: 3 pieces
- Gruyere cheese: 100 g
4
Bake in the oven for 25 minutes for the fish flesh to flake easily. Serve the cooked fish directly in the dish.
