Eggnog Cocktail
1 serving
15 minutes
The eggnog recipe is based on an egg beaten with milk, rum, honey and a pinch of nutmeg. For children, the alcohol is replaced with syrup or honey. Does this remind you of anything? It's our gogol-mogul, exactly the same! It's not surprising, because eggnog is the progenitor of a whole category of flip-style drinks, that is, hot cocktails with eggs and spices. Flip is the sound made by throwing a red-hot nail into a cup, which is how the first American settlers once heated up alcohol. And the tradition of drinking eggnog specifically at Christmas and always in front of a blazing fireplace was introduced by George Washington, who hosted family parties at his Mount Vernon estate. Now in those places there is even a pub-museum, Pioneer's Pub, where they cook eggnog according to the signature recipe of the first president - with rye whiskey and milk sugar.
