In 1959, the U.S. Department of Health announced that industrial cranberry fields were being treated with toxic fertilizers: that's why the Cape Codder, invented in the late 1940s, didn't become one of the most popular American cocktails until thirty years later.

In a mixing glass, add three large handfuls of cranberries (reserve a few berries for serving) and pour in the syrup, then muddle thoroughly to release all the juice from the cranberries.
- Cranberry: 80 g
- Sugar syrup: 20 ml

Fill the glass with crushed ice and add a dash of Angostura.
- Angostura: 2 ml

Add ice cubes and vodka to the shaker and shake well. Strain into a glass, add ice to create a mound.
- Vodka: 50 ml

Squeeze some juice from half a lime, place the soft half on ice, add cranberries on top, and sprinkle with powdered sugar. Garnish the glass with zest.
- Lime: 0.5 piece

- Powdered sugar: 10 g
- Orange zest: pinch
