Greek nut cookies are a traditional treat that reflects the richness of Mediterranean flavors. Its roots go back to ancient Greece, where nuts, honey, and spices were symbols of abundance and celebration. The delicate dough infused with citrus, cinnamon, and clove aromas gives the cookies warmth and the coziness of home baking. After baking, the cookies are soaked in sweet honey syrup, making them surprisingly juicy and rich. The nut topping adds a light crunchy texture that perfectly complements the softness of the base. These cookies are not just a dessert; they carry the atmosphere of Greek family evenings and celebrations when loved ones gather around the table enjoying traditional treats. They are eaten with tea or coffee and sometimes accompanied by a glass of aromatic cognac.
