Lenten Sunflower Halva

Lenten sunflower halva is a sweet treat rooted in European culinary traditions. The main ingredient is sunflower seeds, which turn into a fragrant paste after light roasting. Honey adds natural sweetness and softness, while raisins provide a pleasant tartness and textural contrast. The taste of halva is rich, nutty, with a delicate chewiness. This dessert is an excellent choice for those observing Lent or preferring natural sweets. It is easy and quick to prepare, and serving it as small bars or rolls makes it convenient for snacking. It pairs well with tea or coffee, creating a cozy atmosphere of home enjoyment.

1
Sunflower seeds should be used peeled. They should be lightly dried in a pan or oven.
- Sunflower seeds: 1 glass
2
After the seeds are dried, we send them to a coffee grinder/blender and blend until they become a uniform wet paste.
3
In a bowl, we place our 'paste', add honey to taste (I added 1.5 tablespoons, it turns out moist; if you prefer drier halva, it's better to add less honey) and raisins to taste. You can skip the raisins, but I like halva with raisins.
- Honey: to taste
- Raisin: to taste
4
We form a small 'sausage' from our halva. We wrap it in cling film and send it to cool in the refrigerator. The sweet tasty homemade treat is ready to serve.
