Milk cookies, familiar to everyone since childhood, carry warmth and sweet memories of carefree days. This recipe comes from Soviet times when simple yet incredibly tasty pastries were baked in kindergartens. The cookies have a delicate texture, light sweetness, and subtle vanilla notes that make them a perfect complement to a cup of tea or milk. They are soft inside with a slight crunch outside, and their golden surface adorned with a fork pattern evokes pleasant nostalgia. Due to the simplicity of preparation and the availability of ingredients, milk cookies remain a beloved treat that is easy to make at home, delighting the family with the traditional taste of childhood.

1
Prepare milk syrup. In a saucepan, add sugar and milk (40 ml). Place on medium heat and stir with a spatula until the sugar dissolves.
- Sugar: 90 g
- Milk: 50 ml

2
Remove the saucepan from heat, add butter or margarine and stir until dissolved. Let the mixture cool.
- Butter: 50 g

3
Mix the flour with the baking powder.
- Wheat flour: 200 g
- Baking powder: 1 teaspoon

4
Add an egg, salt, and vanillin to the cooled milk mixture and mix well.
- Chicken egg: 0.5 piece
- Salt: pinch
- Vanillin: pinch

5
First, add half of the flour to the milk mixture and stir. Then add the remaining flour and mix again with a spatula to avoid lumps. The result should be a thick, soft, pliable dough.
- Wheat flour: 200 g

6
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and gather it into a ball with your hands.

7
Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for about an hour.

8
Take the dough and roll it out on a floured surface to a thickness of 7-8 mm.

9
Cut out cookies using a round cutter (it's better to dust the cutter with flour too, as the dough is quite sticky) and transfer them to a parchment-lined baking sheet using a spatula.

10
Mix the remaining milk with the yolk and brush the surface of the cakes.
- Milk: 50 ml
- Egg yolk: 1 piece

11
Use a fork to create a grid pattern on the cookies.

12
Bake the cookies in a preheated oven at 200 degrees for 10-12 minutes.
