Preheat the grill in the oven. Spread a small amount of butter on the bread. Then spread 1 teaspoon of sauce. On one slice, sprinkle Gruyère cheese, add sliced onion rings, and season with salt and pepper. Cover with a second slice of bread to enclose the filling inside. Press firmly.
- White bread for toast: 2 pieces
- Tomato sauce with chili: 2 teaspoons
- Grated Gruyere cheese: 50 g
- Onion: 0.5 head
- Salt: to taste
- Freshly ground black pepper: to taste

Spread half of the remaining softened butter on top of the sandwich and sprinkle with half of the parmesan, pressing down slightly. Place under the grill for a couple of minutes until golden brown. Then flip, spread with the remaining butter, and sprinkle with parmesan. Return to the grill for a couple more minutes. Place on a plate and cut into 4 pieces. Serve immediately.
