    Preheat the grill in the oven. Spread a small amount of butter on the bread. Then spread 1 teaspoon of sauce. On one slice, sprinkle Gruyère cheese, add sliced onion rings, and season with salt and pepper. Cover with a second slice of bread to enclose the filling inside. Press firmly.

Place under the grill for a couple of minutes until golden brown. Then flip, spread with the remaining butter, and sprinkle with parmesan. Return to the grill for a couple more minutes. Place on a plate and cut into 4 pieces. Serve immediately.
