Wash the meat and squeeze out the water. Soak the bread in water or milk. Soak the herring, clean it, separate the fillet, and remove the bones. Chop the onion.

- White bread: 80 g
- Herring: 100 g

Pass meat, herring, squeezed bun, and onion through a meat grinder, add an egg, ready mustard, mix well until homogeneous, season with salt and pepper to taste, and form 10-12 round meatballs, place them in hot water and boil on low heat for 10-15 minutes.

After boiling the meatballs, reduce the broth to 0.5 liters and prepare a sauce with gherkins. Serve the meatballs in the sauce with potatoes, porridge, or vegetables.
