Wheat porridge is a simple yet highly nutritious dish of Russian cuisine known since ancient times. It was a staple for peasants, providing strength and energy for hard labor. The delicate, creamy texture with a hint of sweetness and soft graininess makes it an ideal breakfast or side dish. Traditionally prepared with milk and butter, it adds a special velvetiness to the flavor. Porridge pairs well with honey, nuts, or fruits, making it a versatile dish for both children and adults.
