Red rice is a fragrant and rich dish of Chinese cuisine that surprises with its depth of flavor. Its history dates back to traditional village recipes where rice was infused with the richness of tomatoes, garlic, and fresh herbs. Frying the rice before cooking gives it a unique texture and nutty flavor, while tomato paste and chicken broth fill the dish with warmth and richness. After steeping, red rice achieves a harmonious balance of tomato sweetness and mild spice heat. It can be served as a standalone dish or paired with meat, poultry, or vegetables. Its fresh cilantro adds lightness and zest, making red rice an ideal choice for a cozy family dinner.
