French Potatoes with Cheese

French-style potatoes under cheese is a refined dish inspired by French cuisine but firmly rooted in Russian cooking. It combines tender potatoes simmered in cream with a delicious cheesy crust, creating a perfect balance of creamy flavor and light crispy texture. Such dishes are often prepared in Europe, inspired by gratin. The potatoes slowly soak up the cream, becoming incredibly tender, while the baked cheese adds richness and zest. This dish is perfect for both family dinners and festive gatherings, especially in cold weather when you crave something warm and cozy.

1
All you need to do is peel the potatoes and slice them into coins. Not too thin, about 4-5 millimeters will be enough.
- Potato: 700 g
2
Bring the cream to a boil, add salt, and add the potatoes. Let it simmer on low heat for 5 minutes and remove from heat.
- Cream: 400 ml
- Salt: to taste
- Potato: 700 g
3
Grate the cheese on a coarse grater.
- Cheese: 150 g
4
Layer in any heat-resistant dish, adding salt if necessary: a layer of potatoes, a layer of cheese (leave a handful of cheese to sprinkle on top later).
- Potato: 700 g
- Cheese: 150 g
- Salt: to taste
5
We won't touch the cream for now. The top layer should be potatoes.
6
Once all layers are laid out, pour everything with cream. Cover the form with foil and bake for 20 minutes at 180 degrees.
- Cream: 400 ml
7
After that, remove the foil, sprinkle with the remaining cheese on top, and bake for another 10-15 minutes.
