You might think that the French took our Russian croutons and called them some obscene word! But in fact, it is possible that we borrowed this simple dish, the name of which translates as "lost bread". That is, it is stale bread that has been given a second life. This is the base, and you can add anything to it: berries, salted caramel, chocolate, and ice cream.

Prepare the necessary ingredients.

Crack an egg into a bowl.
- Chicken egg: 1 piece

Add vanilla extract.
- Vanilla extract: 0.5 teaspoon

Add salt and sugar.
- Salt: pinch
- Sugar: 25 g

Pour the milk.
- Milk: 300 ml

Whip everything until homogeneous.

Melt butter in a pan over medium heat.
- Butter: 20 g

Dip one piece of bread into the egg mixture.
- Toast bread: 4 pieces

Fry for a couple of minutes on each side. Place the toasts on paper towels to get rid of excess fat.
