Apple chutney with spices is a vibrant representative of East Indian cuisine, featuring a rich sweet-spicy flavor with a hint of tartness. Historically, this chutney was used as an accompaniment to meat and vegetable dishes, adding depth and richness. It is based on soft, caramelized apples enhanced by the spicy aroma of cinnamon, cloves, allspice, and ginger. Dark raisins add pleasant sweetness while jalapeño and cayenne pepper provide a spicy kick. The chutney is cooked until thickened, becoming the perfect sauce for Indian curries, rice or even cheese. It stores well and improves over the years with a richness of flavors.
