Dehydrated meat is lean meat (beef, chicken, turkey) cut into thin slices or cubes, marinated with spices and dried at a low temperature until all moisture is removed, dark, dense, tough, light, with a concentrated meaty taste and a long shelf life. It is eaten as a high-protein snack (jerky), taken on hikes, crumbled into soups, porridge and stews and rehydrated in hot water.
