Belgian waffles with ice cream and whipped cream

5 servings

40 minutes

They are called Belgian in Russia, but in their homeland, the thick rectangular waffles with a large cell are known as gaufres de Bruxelles - "goffers from Brussels". In consistency, they resemble donuts and are baked from a fairly liquid dough with yeast or baking powder. Deep square cells easily hold any topping, so Belgian waffles are never served "naked", but are decorated with strawberries, whipped cream, ice cream and chocolate.
